Fit and wire spot lights

Now you've had your pride & Joy a while, so now its time to grace the front end with some spot lamps, now we've got the xenons on ours, so spot lights would not make a great deal of difference, but as we only wanted our spots for the look, wiring was not a concern to us, so we will just concentrate on fitting them for the time being, and cover the wiring side of it later on.

The lamps we have chosen are the Wipac spots from Jonspeed racing on eBay and were @ £48 a pair for chrome lamps with the stainless brackets, these brackets came drilled for self tapping screws, but I had decided that I wanted a stronger fit so used some small allen key bolts, so in my case had to re-drill the bottom two fixing holes to accomodate these bolts.

So lets get started

Lets open the bonnet for starters, now have a look at the lower edge of the grill and you will see two handy little platforms for your brackets to fix to, you will also see a vertical in the grill that quite handily your bracket fits up against, if you're only fitting one pair then you will only need to drill the outer holes, please remember I re-drilled the brackets to accept bolts has I knew at a later date I would need to remove the brackets so self tapping screws or pot rivets were not an option for me, but it's entirely upto you how you want to fix them.

Trim the grill

Unfortunately you will have to trim the grill, but this is only on the inside you will also have to cut the small tab at the top of the grill also on the inside, so all is good no external mods, now you have trimmed the grill it's time for the tricky bit, make sure your bracket fits snuggly against the metalwork of the bonnet, now set your your drill with a pilot drill bit to approx 4mm long as we don't want to go through the bonnet, mark then drill with a small drill bit approx 1mm you do have more room than this but better to be safe than sorry, now for the strange bit on Cooper models it seems the bracket fits below the platform where as Cooper S models as ours it fits above (see pics) something to do with brackets fouling the grill

Two or Four

Well the choice is yours, the top four pics show two lamp fitting and the bottom four for quad lamps, as you can see with quad fitting a little mod was needed to the bracket, I had to measure the distance between the two outer lamps then equalize the spacings out which worked out near perfect, with the cup from the lamp I lay this on the bracket then moved it outwards so that the pre-drilled hole was still covered then drilled another hole for the lamp could of really done with another couple of mm to exact spacings between lamps, but its near enough, then on with the lamps and hey presto

Now for wiring

As previously mentioned I have no need to wire our lights up, but this is the basic wiring diagram, which I may do at a later date, this diagram was taken from one of the Mini forums (richard82), if your not sure with wiring side of things get a auto spark to do it for you.

If I decide to wire our lights up I will edit this page and show pics on how to
